Kick the door.

Since I can last remember back when I was as young as maybe twelve, I've wanted to be both an artist and an author. They say don't be a Jack of all trades. Pick one thing and get good at it. The only thing I could ever imagine that would cover both of these things was to be an illustrator for books. Either just covers alone or all throughout the book with other pictures too.

So I spent these last few months getting up the courage to ask authors if they wanted to give me a try. Today I made a post on a few public groups. I only had one or two replies before I felt a fleet of panic. Was this what I really wanted to do? Was I really ready?

In truth, I don't have any of the full programs needed to do the entire work for the covers. So in that regard, I am fully unprepared. What I am offering right now is to make a painting or drawing and just asking for a little bit of name dropping so I can continue to get authors to practice with.

I am self taught in almost everything that I do. I need test subjects willing to give me a moment of their time to at least pretend that they've hired me to make them art they can use for their books. However they can take the image I make as a gift and actually use it. Just give credit to my name so when I am fully prepared and ready to charge for my service my name is already out and about. So in that sense, yes, I am ready. I'm knocking on the door and if no one answers I'm going to kick this MF down.
