So once upon a time, I had settled on the name 'Hearts at Easel,' for my "business name," which I stuck with from about 2015 till 2020. A good five years. Its the name that still sits on my Redbubble and my Society 6. In part, because they don't let you change the name you started with. So even though my instagram name is 'TheFinickyShopkeeper' for my shop now, this name is always a side name because changing the made to order store names would require re-uploading the images all over again and re-fixing them to the products.
In the future, after I have purchased an editor for my computer and decide to make the pictures of my art better, I may start over from the beginning and have the products made of my art look even nicer and more professional. Right now that isn't in the budget so it is what it is.
Hearts at Easel can be viewed in two ways, Hearts at Ease, and Arts at Easel. It was the perfect mash up for a name. The idea is putting your heart into your art. The meaning was a strong one for me for many years. I build myself up on being kind, and spreading joy through art. Often times I found myself undervaluing my work and practically giving my art away for free. I wasn't looking for attention, or gratification or even sympathy. I do not need to become famous. I did at some point feel that my kindness was taken advantage of so the 'kindness' or 'heart' dropped out of being meaningful for me.
As the days grew closer to 2020 I found myself becoming more Finicky about letting go of my art. I only want to give my artwork to people who truly love it. Not who pity me for needing an income. I would rather be poor, then to have my art treated poorly or taken into a home for the wrong reasons.
I know that this post come a bit more sad, and regrettably bitter. The thing is, I still want my art to have a good home. It might be that the home it needs is my own. When I get around to posting available pieces in the summer, please keep in mind, if you really truly want it, express it. We will make it happen.
